The blue stone of Wallonia is a metamorphic limestone rock quarried in Wallonia, Belgium. It is mainly used for construction and decoration, as well as jewelry. Blue stone, also called small Belgian granite, is a compact limestone resulting from the accumulation, in shallow and warm seas, numerous fossils in a carbonate mud. The main fossil of Belgian bluestone is undoubtedly the crinoid, the articles of which (cylindrical segments) form the bulk of the rock. Granite, on the other hand, is an igneous rock formed by the underground solidification of magma. The minerals had time to form crystals as they cooled slowly.
